Fireside RV Resort is a full-hookup RV park near Baton Rouge, tucked just off I-12 in Ponchatoula, about 46 miles and 45 minutes east of the city. You get 165 spacious, level sites, each with full 30/50-amp hookups, water, and sewer, free WiFi, and none of the junk fees corporate parks love to tack on. Baton Rouge’s stadium, capitol, and riverfront all sit an easy day trip away, and you come home to quiet pines instead of a parking lot.

The quick version

  • About 46 miles and 45 minutes from downtown Baton Rouge, straight up I-12.
  • 165 full-hookup sites with 30- and 50-amp power, concrete roads, and crushed-limestone pads.
  • Free WiFi, and none of the junk fees other parks quietly bolt on.
  • A relaxed home base for LSU home-game weekends and Baton Rouge day trips.
  • Furnished cabins too, if you’re rolling in without a rig.

How far is Baton Rouge from the park?

The park sits 46 miles due east, so figure about 45 minutes rolling west on I-12 to reach Baton Rouge. From our exit near Robert (Exit 47), you point the rig west and I-12 runs you right into Baton Rouge, where it ties into I-10 at the edge of the city. There’s no tangle of city streets to fight until you’re basically there.

Because the park sits right off the interstate, big rigs get in and out without white-knuckle turns. You’re close enough to Baton Rouge to make a morning of the capitol and be back for an afternoon float on the lazy river, but far enough out that you actually hear crickets at night.

What makes Fireside a great RV park near Baton Rouge?

It comes down to space, a level pad, and no surprises on the bill. A lot of parks near a big city cram rigs in tight and turn to soup after a hard rain. Our 165 full-hookup RV sites are well spaced along paved concrete roads, each on a crushed-limestone pad, so you’re not bumping awnings with your neighbor or parking in mud. Every site has its own fire ring, picnic table, and BBQ pit, and the WiFi’s free, which matters if you’re working on the road or you’re a snowbird streaming the game.

And the part people appreciate most once they’ve been nickel-and-dimed elsewhere: the stuff other parks sneak onto your bill, the resort fee, that surprise site-lock charge, the so-called “community impact fee,” you just won’t see any of it here. What we quote is what you owe. And if you’d rather not tow at all, ten furnished cabins sleep up to six, each with a full kitchen and a smart TV. You can check current nightly and weekly numbers on our rates page.

Is there an RV park near Baton Rouge for LSU game days?

You bet. Fireside makes a great pre-game basecamp for LSU home weekends, about 45 minutes from Tiger Stadium, so you can tailgate all day and still sleep somewhere quiet and roomy that night. Tiger Stadium seats 102,321 fans, per LSU Athletics, and Baton Rouge lodging fills up fast on home weekends, so booking your site well ahead pays off.

What’s worth doing in Baton Rouge?

A lot, honestly, and most of it sits a short hop from your site. Baton Rouge is Louisiana’s capital city, sitting right on the Mississippi River, so you get history, museums, a live tiger, and a walkable riverfront in one trip. The downtown levee path runs for miles along the river if you like to walk or bike off the day’s boudin.

Two things to know before you go: the Capitol’s 27th-floor observation deck is closed for renovation and isn’t expected to reopen until late 2027, and if you’re chasing a crawfish boil, that’s really a spring thing here, with peak season running March through May. For the full current lineup, Visit Baton Rouge keeps an up-to-date events calendar.

When’s the best time to visit Baton Rouge?

Fall and spring are the sweet spots. October is about as good as it gets, with highs easing into the low 80s and far less humidity than summer. September still runs warm, with highs near 89, and by November you’re into comfortable low-70s days and cool nights that are perfect around a campfire. Keep in mind the Atlantic hurricane season runs through November 30, so it’s worth watching the forecast on an early-fall trip.

There’s almost always something on, too. The free Louisiana Book Festival fills the downtown streets on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the Spanish Town Mardi Gras parade rolls Saturday, February 6, 2027, and downtown’s Festival of Lights lights up the holidays in early December. Any one of them makes a fun reason to book a few nights.
