Floating the lazy river beside the pond at Fireside RV Resort

Fireside RV Resort is a Ponchatoula, Louisiana RV park with pool access built into every stay. Down at Fireside’s water area, the kids get a family pool, the grown-ups get a 21-and-up pool where the swim-up bar lives, and everybody gets a winding lazy river, with no resort fee or day pass standing between you and the water. You’ll find Fireside’s gate off Exit 47 of I-12, about an hour up the interstate from New Orleans.

Here’s the lay of the land for anyone towing in from Baton Rouge or booking a cabin so the kids can splash all weekend: what’s in the water, who can swim where, which months feel best, what the rules are and what a site near the pool costs.

Quick answers:

  • Fireside’s pools and lazy river are free for every registered RV and cabin guest, with no day pass.
  • Fireside keeps its pools and lazy river open in every season, but the water itself is never heated.
  • Fireside’s adults-only pool, home to the swim-up bar, is for guests 21 and older.
  • A standard RV site at Fireside runs $55 nightly in the November-to-March season and $65 nightly from April through October, per Fireside’s 2026 rate sheet.
  • In August, the average high on NOAA’s climate-normals record for the Hammond 5 E station reaches 91.8°F.

What’s included with Fireside’s pools and lazy river?

Fireside RV Resort is an RV park with swimming pool access for every overnight guest. Book any RV site or cabin and the family pool, the lazy river and the 21-and-older pool by the swim-up bar all come along at no extra charge. Nobody tacks a resort fee onto the water here, and Fireside’s lazy river page adds that there’s no charge for locking in a specific site and no reservation service fee. Staying in a cabin instead? Fireside gives cabin guests the same free access to the water as RV guests.

The water area at Fireside breaks down like this:

Fireside water areaWho can use itGood to know
Lazy river
Every registered RV and cabin guest
Fireside’s lazy river winds along a path overlooking the pond, and everyone in it must have a float
Family pool
Every registered RV and cabin guest
Fireside’s center family pool has wide steps and a shallow end, with lounge chairs around it
Adults-only pool
Guests 21 and older
Fireside’s adults-only pool has the swim-up bar, which serves frozen cocktails and cold drinks

The lazy river is the one folks talk about. Fireside’s lazy river and pools page puts it simply: “Grab a tube, float at your own pace, and let the day melt away.” Fireside also notes you’re never far from shade, a lounge chair or the swim-up bar while you float.

When is it warm enough to swim in South Louisiana?

According to Fireside’s lazy river page, spring through fall is when the pools see the most use, and summer brings the warmest swimming. NOAA’s climate normals for the Hammond 5 E weather station back that up, with an average high of 84.5°F in May and averages of 88.0°F or warmer from June through September.

Here are the monthly normals from the NOAA NCEI climate normals file for Hammond 5 E:

MonthHammond 5 E normal high and low

For trip planning, late spring through early fall is pool season, and by July a slow lap around the lazy river feels SO good. Winter at Fireside’s pools is a different story. Fireside’s pools stay open, but with a normal January high of 61.5°F at Hammond 5 E, an unheated swim is more of a dare. Fireside’s swim-up bar is a seasonal thing, too, so cool-weather days at Fireside are better spent fishing from the lakeside dock or around the fire ring at your site.

Does Fireside have an indoor or heated pool?

No. The water at Fireside is outdoors and unheated, and you won’t find an indoor pool on Fireside’s amenities list. Fireside’s pools stay open year-round, but swimming here is a warm-weather pleasure. If you’re shopping for an RV park with indoor pool access for a January trip, Fireside isn’t that place, and we’d rather tell you now than after you’ve packed the goggles.

Do you need a day pass to swim?

Not at Fireside RV Resort, because Fireside doesn’t have a day pass at all. Fireside’s rules say every stay must be an overnight reservation in an RV site or a cabin, and inviting outside guests during your stay isn’t permitted. That keeps the pools and the lazy river for the people actually camping here.

Four wristbands come with each Fireside site or cabin reservation, and every camper and guest wears one while on site. Fireside allows a maximum of six guests per RV site, and the fifth and sixth guests pay an admittance fee. Fireside’s rates page lists the admittance fee for those extra guests at $10 per night for children ages 4 to 13 and $20 per night for ages 13 and up, and children 3 and under stay free.

What are the pool rules at Fireside RV Resort?

Fireside’s pool rules are short and common sense: floats in the lazy river, no outside alcohol inside the pool fence and no under-21 guests in the adult pool area. Most of them exist to keep the deck safe and calm for families. Here’s the full list from Fireside’s rules and policies:

  • Everyone in Fireside’s lazy river must have a float, and a flotation device must be worn in the lazy river at all times.
  • Entry to Fireside’s lazy river is at the steps, and no one jumps in from the sides.
  • Fireside doesn’t allow outside alcohol inside the pool and lazy river fencing, and that includes ice chests in golf carts.
  • Guests under 21 aren’t allowed in the adult pool area near the bar at Fireside.
  • Fireside’s rules keep pets out of the pool area entirely, so walk the dog before you swim.
  • Swimming in Fireside’s pond is prohibited, so keep the swimming to the pools and the lazy river.
  • Fireside’s rules also say parents are fully responsible for their children and their behavior.

Fireside’s parent-responsibility rule matters most in the family pool. The American Red Cross asks every adult on watch duty to “provide close and constant attention to children you are supervising; avoid distractions including cell phones,” according to its water safety guidance. Pick a water watcher, take turns, and put the phone in the beach bag.

What should you pack for a pool day at Fireside?

  • A float of your own if you like, since inner tubes and floats are welcome on Fireside’s lazy river.
  • Sunscreen, because the EPA says to “Reapply every two hours, even on cloudy days, and after swimming or sweating.”
  • Towels, and if you’re staying in a cabin, your own sheets, pillows and blankets too.
  • Drinks in cans or plastic, since Fireside discourages glass containers throughout the campground.

The EPA’s sun safety tips also call for sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 and broad-spectrum protection, which is worth remembering on a July Saturday in Tangipahoa Parish.

What does an RV site near the pool cost?

Want to be steps from the water? Some of Fireside’s premium sites are picked for exactly that. Fireside prices its premium RV sites at $65 per night for November through March and $75 per night for April through October. Fireside’s RV camping page says some 20 by 50 foot pull-in or back-in sites count as premium because of their proximity to the pool, lazy river and pond.

Fireside season (2026 rates)Standard RV sitePremium RV site
November through March
Standard: $55 nightly (November through March)
Premium: $65 nightly (November through March)
April through October
Standard: $65 nightly (April through October)
Premium: $75 nightly (April through October)

At every Fireside RV site you’ll get 30-amp and 50-amp service together, along with water and sewer hookups, and the site’s fire ring works as your BBQ pit right beside the picnic table. A few more ways to save, straight from Fireside’s 2026 rates:

  • Book six nights at Fireside and the seventh one is free.
  • Through its Sunday-to-Wednesday weekday special, Fireside drops standard RV sites to $35 and premium RV sites to $45 a night in September, November and December, holidays not included, so November and December are the next chances to use it.
  • Show an AARP or Good Sam card, a military ID or proof you’re 65 or older, and Fireside takes 10% off, one discount per stay.

Back at your full-hookup RV site, Fireside’s free resort-wide Wi-Fi, clean bath houses and on-site laundry cover the basics. Quiet hours at Fireside run from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am, so the whole park settles down after a long pool day.

Need cabins with pool access near New Orleans?

You bet. Fireside RV Resort works as a campground with a pool and cabins, and it’s about an hour up the interstate from New Orleans. From Fireside’s cabins it’s only a short stroll to the lazy river and pool bar, so cabin folks get their pool days without towing anything.

Fireside has 10 cabins. Fireside’s standard cabins are 532 square feet and sleep six, with a queen bed in a private bedroom, two twin bunk beds and, out in the living area, a full-size pull-out couch. Every Fireside cabin comes with a full kitchen plus heat and air conditioning. The one handicap accessible cabin at Fireside sleeps four. A cabin at Fireside costs $165 a night in any season, with a one-time cleaning fee of $18 on each cabin booking.

A few cabin rules to know before you book: leave pets at home, since Fireside’s cabins are pet-free, make sure someone in your group is 21 or older, and pack your own bedding and towels. See photos and the virtual tour on the Fireside cabin rentals page.

What makes the best RV park with a pool?

The best RV park with a pool near New Orleans includes the water in your nightly rate, gives grown-ups their own pool away from the kids and keeps the deck for overnight guests only. Fireside RV Resort in Ponchatoula meets each of those, then throws in a lazy river for good measure. We’d use this checklist anywhere:

  • Pool access in the rate. Fireside includes the pools and lazy river with every RV site and cabin booking.
  • A separate adults-only pool. Fireside’s adults-only pool is for guests 21 and older, with a swim-up bar.
  • Room for little swimmers. Fireside’s family pool has a shallow, kid-friendly entry.
  • Guests only. Fireside has no day pass, so the pools are for registered campers and their registered guests.
  • Sites close to the water. Some of Fireside’s premium sites are premium because they sit near the pool, lazy river and pond.

Planning a spring trip for the first warm swims of the year? Pencil in two April 2027 festivals. Ponchatoula’s own Strawberry Festival fills Memorial Park on April 9, 10 and 11, 2027, a Friday through Sunday. In New Orleans, French Quarter Festival lists its 2027 dates as April 8 to 11.

And on a hot afternoon, do what South Louisiana does and find a sno-ball stand. A sno-ball is a mound of finely shaved ice soaked in flavored syrup, often finished with a drizzle of condensed milk, and it’s the perfect thing to eat on the drive back to the pool.
